>>>GOOD MORNING, EVERYONE. WELCOME TO THE SHOW. I’M MEGYN KELLY. WE BEGIN WITH AN IMPORTANT WARNING FOR PARENTS. A TEENAGER FROM FLORIDA HAD A SEVERE PEANUT ALLERGY. YOU KNOW SOMEBODY WITH THIS, AN ALLERGY TO PEANUTS. THE 15-YEAR-OLD MADE A TRAGIC MISTAKE WEEKS AGO AND THE RESULTS WERE DIRE. NBC NEWS CORRESPONDENT STEPHANIE GOSK EXPLAINS. WATCH THIS.>>Reporter: 15-YEAR-OLD ALEXI STAFFORD DIDN’T SHOW THE WARNING SIGNS. THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN A RED FLAG. SHE HAD A SEVERE PEANUT ALLERGY. ACCORDING TO HER MOTHER SHE DIDN’T SEE REESE’S LOGO INDICATING PEANUTS BEFORE GRABBING A COOKIE. SHE WRITES, “STARTED FEELING TINGLING IN HER MOUTH AND A CAME HOME. HER MOTHER SAID IT DETERIORATED SHE WAS GIVEN TO EPI SHOTS AND WENT INTO SHOCK, WIN 90 MINUTES SHE QUIT BREATHING. SHE KNEW HER LIMITS AND WAS AWARE OF FAMILIAR PACKAGING. SHE KNEW WHAT SAFE WAS. NOW THE GRIEVING MOTHER HAS AN URGENT WARNING FOR OTHER PARENTS. THE COMPANY HAS DIFFERENT COLORED PACKAGING TO INDICATE CHUNKY, CHEWY, OR REGULAR BUT NO SCREAMING WARNINGS ABOUT SUCH A FATAL INGREDIENT TO MANY PEOPLE, ESPECIALLY CHILDREN. THE PACKAGES OF CHEWY CHIPS AHOY WITH PEANUTS AND WITHOUT DO LOOK VERY SIMILAR, BOTH THE SAME COLOR AND GRAPHIC LAYOUT. THE MOST VISIBLE DIFFERENCE IS REESE’S LOGO AND PEANUT BUTTER CUPS ON THE FRONT, WHICH CAN BE HIDDEN IF THE FLAP IS OPEN. THE WORDS PEANUT BUTTER DO APPEAR IN SOME FORM ON EVERY SIDE OF THE PACKAGE INCLUDING IN THE INGREDIENTS IN SMALL TYPE. NABISCO’S PARENT COMPANY ISSUED A STATEMENT WRITING IN PART, WE WERE VERY SADDENED TO HEAR ABOUT THIS SITUATION. WE TAKE ALLERGIES VERY SERIOUSLY AND ALL OF OUR PRODUCTS ARE CLEARLY LABELED ON THE INFORMATION PANEL OF THE PACKAGING FOR THE MAJOR FOOD ALLERGENS IN THE U.S. WE ALWAYS ENCOURAGE CONSUMERS TO READ THE PACKAGING LABELING. ALLERGISTS SAY KIDS NEED TO PAY CLOSE ATTENTION. KELLIE STAFFORD SAYS HER HEART IS BROKEN OVER THE LOSS OF ALEXI, BUT SHE WANTS TO SPREAD AWARENESS SO THIS HORRIBLE MISTAKE DOESN’T HAPPEN AGAIN.>>ALEXI GONE TOO SOON AT THE AGE OF 15 AS A RESULT OF THAT SIMPLE EASILY MADE MISTAKE. JOINING ME NOW NBC STEPHANIE GOSK WHO YOU JUST HEARD FROM AND INVESTIGATIVE REPORTER AND MEGHAN TOOEY AND HOST OF IN PRINCIPLE. SHE’S 15 YEARS OLD. YOU CAN UNDERSTAND THE MOTHER IS UPSET AT THE CHIPS AHOY — THE MAKERS OF CHIPS AHOY. MY OWN TAKE ON IT, YOU TELL ME, IT’S A MISTAKE THAT COULD HAPPEN TO ANYONE WITH MOST PRODUCTS. >>IT’S SUCH A TRAGIC STORY. SHE’S OVER AT A FRIEND’S HOUSE, A 15-YEAR-OLD KID. MAYBE HER MOM BUYS SOFT COOKIES. SHE’S STARVING AS ALL 15-YEAR-OLD KIDS ARE DURING THE DAY AND SHE GRABBED ONE. THE OTHER THING THAT STRUCK ME ABOUT THE STORY, THERE WERE TWO EPI PENS ADMINISTERED. I THOUGHT, WRONGLY, AN EPIPEN, SECOND EPIPEN AND YOU WOULD BE OKAY. >>WOULD DO IT. >>JUST A REMINDER HOW SEVERE THESE ALLERGIES ARE AND THE LIMITS OF THE DRUGS WE HAVE TO TREAT THEM. >>TOTALLY. >>I WAS JUST WONDERING, WAS SHE CARRYING AN EPIPEN WITH HER WHEN SHE HAD IT AT THE HOUSE OR DID SHE HAVE TO GO HOME AND GET THE EPIPEN. >>MY UNDERSTANDING IS YOU HAD TO GO HOME AND GET IT. BUT YOU KNOW, WE DON’T KNOW EXACTLY THE MEDICAL TIME LINE. >>IT SOUNDS LIKE THE SYMPTOMS STARTED ALMOST INSTANTLY. SHE REALIZED SHE HAD EATEN PEANUTS. I THINK CHIPS AHOY, THEY DID PUT THE BIG LABEL ON THERE. YOU CAN UNDERSTAND HOW IT WAS CONFUSING FOR A CHILD, THOUGH. HONESTLY, HOW MANY TIMES DO YOU HEAR THE STORIES YOU GO ON AN AIRPLANE, YOU CAN’T HAVE PEANUTS. I SEND MY KIDS TO SCHOOL, YOU CAN’T HAVE PEANUT BUTTER JELLY OR SNACKS WITH PEANUTS. I CONFESS SOMETIMES I’M LIKE, REALLY, COME ON. THE MAJORITY HAS TO CHANGE THEIR BEHAVIOR FOR A FEW. THIS STORY IS A GOOD REMINDER TO PEOPLE WHO THINK THE WAY I WAS THINKING, THAT YOUR CHILD’S DESIRE FOR PEANUT BUTTER DOES NOT TRUMP THE OTHER CHILD’S RIGHT TO LIVE. >>RIGHT. >>WE CAN MAKE THESE SMALL SACRIFICES VERY EASILY TO HELP PROTECT THESE CHILDREN.>>LIKE YOU, WHEN I FIRST HEARD ABOUT KIDS HAVING PEANUT ALLERGIES, I THOUGHT, THAT CAN’T BE REAL. WHEN I WAS LITTLE I DON’T REMEMBER ALL THESE KIDS HAVING PEANUT ALLERGIES BUT IT IS REAL. I THINK THE STORY UNDERSCORES THE NEED FOR SUCH VIGILENCE ON THE PART OF FAMILIES AND CHILDREN WHO DO HAVE THIS CONDITION, THIS AFFLICTION. IT’S IN PEANUT OIL. EVEN CHOCOLATE MAKING FACTORIES SOMETIMES MIX WITH PEANUTS, SO YOU HAVE TO BE REALLY CAREFUL ABOUT THAT. IT’S TRAGIC ALL AROUND. MY HEART, OF COURSE, GOES OUT TO THE FAMILY BUT ALSO THE FAMILY OF THE FRIEND. YOU KNOW, CAN YOU IMAGINE YOUR DAUGHTER’S FRIEND COMES OVER, GRABS SOMETHING FROM YOUR COUNTER AND 90 MINUTES LATER — >>I ALWAYS ASK THE OTHER MOMS IF SOMEBODY IS EATING AT MY HOUSE, DOES HE OR SHE HAVE PEANUT ALLERGIES, ALLERGIES AT ALL, BUT I DON’T KNOW IF I WOULD THINK ABOUT IT WHEN IT COMES TO SNACKS. I THINK OF IT MOSTLY IN TERMS OF MEALS. >>IT’S INTERESTING. NOT JUST MORE KIDS HAVE ALLERGIES BUT THEY ARE SHOWING UP IN EMERGENCY ROOMS FOR THESE FATAL OR NEAR FATAL REACTIONS AT HIGHER RATES THAN EVER BEFORE. THE MEDICAL EXPERTS ARE VERY EXPLICIT ABOUT WHAT THESE KIDS AND FAMILIES SHOULD DO. YOU SHOULD BROADCAST THAT ALLERGY WHEN YOU GO INTO A FRIEND’S HOME, ANOTHER SOCIAL GATHERING SO THE HOST IS CHECKING AND MAKING SURE THAT THEY ARE NOT SERVING ANYTHING THAT HAS THESE. >>THEY STILL DON’T KNOW WHY WE’RE GETTING THESE ALLERGIES AT THIS INCREASED RATE. REMEMBER, WHEN WE WERE KIDS, IT WASN’T THUS. NOW IT’S EVERYWHERE. ANYWAY, WE WANTED TO LEAD WITH THE STORY BECAUSE IT’S A WORD TO THE WISE BOTH FOR PARENTS WHO HAVE KIDS WITH ALLERGIES AND PARENTS WHO DON’T, BECAUSE YOUR CHILD IS LIKELY INTERACTING WITH SOMEBODY FOR WHOM TREE NUTS OR WHATEVER THE ALLERGY IS COULD POTENTIALLY BE FATAL AND IT’S REAL. ON A LIGHTER NOTE, WE HAVE TO TALK ABOUT THIS THING, WHICH IS APPARENTLY STARTING TO TAKE OVER THE WORLD OF TECH AND HOPEFULLY EVERYONE ELSE’S WORLD. THEY CALL IT JO MO. YOU’VE HEARD OF FOMO? YOU’VE HEARD OF FOMO?>>FEAR OF MISSING OUT. >>RIGHT. A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVE FOMO, GO OUT WHEN THEY DON’T WANT TO, CONSTANTLY CHECKING iPHONE. JOMO ABOUT JOY OF MISSING OUT. CONSIDER JOMO. CONSIDER PUTTING DOWN — THIS IS CEO OF GOOGLE SAYING CONSIDER PUTTING DOWN YOUR DEVICE AND JUST BEING IN THE MOMENT. THE REASON I LOVE THIS IS BECAUSE I HAVE TO TELL YOU, I’M ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE I TAKE DAYS TO RESPOND TO E-MAILS AND OFTEN TEXTS WHICH REALLY TICKS PEOPLE OFF, BUT IT’S BECAUSE I HAVE JOMO. >>MEGYN, I MUST BE LIVING THE DREAM, BECAUSE WHEN I GET HOME I JUST WATCH NETFLIX. I’M MISSING OUT ON A WHOLE LOT OF THINGS. >>A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO I DECIDED ON MY OWN TO GO ON ONE OF THESE BACKPACKING TRIPS WITH REI. I LOVE TO BE OUT IN THE WILDERNESS. BUT IT WAS THE FIRST TIME I HAD EVER BEEN ON A TRIP WHERE MY PHONE ALMOST FROM THE FIRST DAY JUST DIDN’T WORK. IT BECAME A CAMERA. I WAS GONE FOR FIVE DAYS. >>WHAT WERE YOUR INITIAL FEELINGS? DID YOU FEEL PANIC?>>THERE WAS PANIC. >>DID YOU HAVE THE SENSATION OF BUGS RUNNING UP AND DOWN YOUR BODY. >>PANIC WAS QUICKLY FOLLOWED BY PURE BLISS. IT WAS REMARKABLE. I CAME BACK RELAXED, CENTERED, GROUNDED. I RECOMMEND IT FOR EVERYONE. >>IMMEDIATELY STARTED RETURNING E-MAILS. >>I THINK THE QUESTION IS, ASIDE FROM KIND OF THESE TRIPS THAT YOU TAKE, WHERE YOU’RE REALLY ACTIVELY REMOVING YOUR SELF FROM THE THINGS THAT SURROUND US EVERY DAY, WHAT CAN YOU DO IN YOUR EVERY DAY LIFE TO JUST TAKE THOSE MOMENTS AWAY FROM TECHNOLOGY, TO TURN OFF THE PHONE. I LIVE IN BROOKLYN AND WORK IN MANHATTAN, SOMETIMES MAKE AN EFFORT TO WALK HOME, WALK OVER MANHATTAN BRIDGE. >>IMPRESSIVE. >>I WAS DOING THAT LAST FRIDAY AND I HAD THE SAME REACTION. I WAS TRYING NOT TO USE MY PHONE. THIS IS AN HOUR. I’M WALKING OVER THIS BRIDGE. IT’S A BEAUTIFUL FRIDAY NIGHT. TO NOTICE THE REACTION THAT I COULD BARELY KEEP THAT PHONE IN MY POCKET SPEAKS TO HOW MUCH OF A CONCERTED EFFORT WE HAVE TO MAKE. >>I LIKE IT — I MISS THE DAYS WHEN I WAS UNAVAILABLE, YOU KNOW. THE TEXTING REALLY BOTHERS ME, BECAUSE PEOPLE REALLY SEEM TO FEEL THEY DESERVE AN IMMEDIATE RESPONSE. IT’S LIKE, WHY DO I HAVE TO STOP EVERYTHING I’M DOING BECAUSE YOU DECIDED TO COMMAND MY ATTENTION. RIGHT? YOU’RE NOT IN CHARGE OF ME. I’M IN CHARGE OF ME. I LIKE AN E-MAIL WHERE THEY CAN

  1. She should been carrying her epipen with her all times if she know how bad it can be .She should read the package to be sure .If you have allergies that bad you have to be very very careful .

  2. Sad 4 the girl that did look at labels the companies have it written on the back the ingredients in them. And reeses on it. I have worked in a places where there try to promote nut free zones but there will be a peanut shell dropped right next to the nut free zone or parents have asked did anyone have peanuts at this table but unless you can see someone at a table eating peanuts can not say one way or another. All i can say maybe just disinfect the table in case.

  3. Epipens only TEMPORARILY supress the reaction. After or just before the first pen is administered you must call 911 so they can be treated. The administration of the second pen is only to buy time for the ambulance.

  4. How sad I know how it feels to have a nut allergies you've got to keep on top of it you've got to read all of the labels fore you eat I just wish the writing on the labels would be bigger and that the allergy ingredients would be on the top first cause it's scary to go thru anaphylactic shock

  5. I have a very bad cashew allergy and carry an epi pen, but my school never said don't pack cashews, even after I've had allergic reactions at school and the smell can make me start to feel sick. Another friend has such a bad dairy allergy, that when someone just spilled some of their milk on his skin, it puffed up bad and he had to go to the hospital. I feel like schools should treat allergies similarly, cause it always seems to be peanuts, but other allergies can be just as bad if not worse, but also, where would banning food stop then?

  6. Companies need to have the fact their product contains peanuts in large bold lettering on the front and all sides of every package.

  7. sounds like someone wanted her dead. too many coincidences and convienient negligence. not trolling. nabisco did absolutely nothing wrong.

  8. Very tragic. Was she taken to the hospital? They never said. Id hate to think she was given 2 epipen shots and no one called the ambulance. That couldve made the difference.

  9. She should have read the ingredients before she ate the cookie. It was just really poor judgment to just grab something without first knowing what was in it. The company puts their ingredients on the packages of all of their products. The company is absolutely not liable for this at all.

  10. She should have read the package AND carry her EPI pen at all times…THAT should be the warning…not blaming the Company who clearly labelled it…understandably upsetting though

  11. Im so sorry that poor girl and family my heart goes out to them. But listen to this, one day at my job I made some cookies we girls usually brought something in usually on fridays. Some of the men in the shop who never brought anything were always the first to grab them. One of those guys came in upset and asked what are in these cookies cause I can't have nuts. Like how dare I do such a thing to make them with nuts. Some did and some didnt. No one was aware of this allergy except for him. This was in front of all 5 of us girls and then he threw the cookie at me across the room and it hit me in the face and then took off. He did it so fast I couldn't even duck. You should have seen the look on the other girls faces. I didn't report it but guess what I made sure after that there was nuts in all the cookies i made after that. All he had to do was come to me in a nice way then I would have told him which ones were not with nuts. He never brought anything in. He was a senior tech and made more then me. He already had a rep of being a whiner in the shop too.

  12. Only eat peanuts that are grown above ground Valencia Kirkland and introduce peanuts into your child's diet at early age in small tiny amounts

  13. If her mom had taken her to the ER as the EpiPen instructs, "seek medical attention", her daughter would be alive.

  14. Not to be harsh but reading is essential. I have allergies and I do not assume. I read everything to make sure that I am ok. They said she knew how to be safe but the number 1 way to be safe is to read and be 100% sure.

  15. I see those stories in usa for different kind of allergies,, i guess we are lucky here our kids hardly have those problems,, i think the life style in arabic country’s are the reason

  16. You need to tell everyone if you have such big allergy, it's so important!! And never assume that a bag of cookies is okay to eat even though you told them about it. I am so sorry for this poor girl but at 15 you need to be responsible for yourself, you can never be sure with these things. It sucks that she didn't check the bag and that the parents of her friends weren't safe about what to serve the kids

  17. Hiding in a hiding place where no one ever goes.
Put it in the pantry with your cupcakes……
    Tu find the children.

  18. ALLERGIES and other immune diseases are rising because parents are bubble-wrapping their children. When a baby is born they are denied the bacterial smear that a natural birth would provide and so their immune system is not primed/kick started….the window of opportunity is closing rapidly. My friend brought her new born baby to my house to expose her to my dog. My dog was very maternal and cuddled and kissed the baby. There's no antibiotics or anti-bacterials used at her house. Germs are your friends – they exist in your guts right now. Stop nuking them with antibiotics…you'll compromise your immune system, increase your chance of clinical depression and obesity.

  19. Megyn's logic is so off. So her friend shouldn't have even had the peanut butter cookies at her own house?

  20. If companies adhered to all the different allergies that exist they would end up with bells, whistles, flashing lights, dna tests and a genie that popped out.

I have nut allergies. I am 40 and carry my Epi pen everywhere.

My allergy isn’t someone else’s responsibility it’s mine and up to me to over see things.

  21. Oh puhlease. It says peanut butter right by the seal in plain sight. Her daughter should have payed attention. She should have had a pen with her. And her mother should have been responsible enough to call the other parents and make sure to remind them to not have peanut snacks. So, irresponsible on her part.

  22. This was clearly a case of not being educated enough on her allergy. Both for alexi and her parents. As soon as she had symptoms she immediately should have been taken to a hospital. Not gone home to get an epi pen!! So sad and heartbreaking to see preventable deaths like this.

  23. So we blame the company because some one assume something. So no one takes personal responsibility any more. It’s every one fault but you own. She was way old enough to read. If the package was open. The label was still on the bottom. Red packaging don’t mean safe. Nutter butter packaging is red too. It’s common sense. Check and we in doubt eat something else.

  24. Why didn't she go to the hospital asap…. like two epi pens won't save you…she needed an emergency room not just two epi pens.

  25. So wait, I have to buy cookies with other kids in mind ??? I have allergies and I’m very careful and always ask.. also, carry your epi pen… also, her mother should of taken her to the hospital, like the pen clearly states

  26. Unfortunately some people don't realize how bad food allergies can be. There was a young woman, allergic to peanuts who died after kissing her boyfriend on the lips after he had been eating peanuts. Imagine a minute amount of peanut residue or oil on his lips is all it took to set off a fatal reaction.

  27. I feel the same way Megyn does about responding to texts! I typically don’t reply right away and have certain friends who get very angry or offended when in reality I just need me time and don’t want to feel Ike I have to drop everything and reply to typically superficial and very basic conversation. It is not that I don’t care for and respect the individual I just know for my sanity I can not be glued to a phone. It is not healthy for me, I need down time and there is/nor there should be anything wrong with that….

  28. Also, as a nanny/babysitter and teacher I have always been hyper aware of kids and allergies. My church lost a child to an allergic reaction very similar to this a few years ago and we have been even more vigilant when interacting with children wether it be at camp or in class to have their allergies come first. Parents need to be more vocal and let people know as well though, it goes both ways. I know that with all the families I work with I have made sure to ask as well as had parents tell me on their own so you can never be too safe/informed when it comes to allergies!

  29. As someone with a peanut allergy (thankfully not life threatening and can usually be solved with some Benadryl) she should have paid closer attention. The labeling is shown to be on the side. Plus cookies are notorious for containing peanuts due to cross contamination

  30. People with severe allergies need to have controlled microdosing at a hospital clinic. The allergy will still exist, but the severity lessens. It's done where medical intervention is right at hand.

  31. Myyounger cousin is allergic to almost all foods including nuts, dairy, seafood, soy, fruits, vegetables, etc. and can’t eat anything without checking ingredients or none at all. If you have an allergy and eating away, always check before eating anything.

  32. Megyn, you said you don't know why so many kids are getting serious life threatening allergies. I'll tell you why, it's from the excessive amount of vaccines our kids are getting now. Please do your research and learn about the toxic ingredients that are being injected into our children. We have the sickest children in history!

  33. My question is if this girl knew she was extremely allergic to peanut butter than she had to have tasted it before so I would think that it wouldn't take multiple bites to tell but at the same time I do know people have reactions just being close to the things there allergic too. For some reason I don't picture the friends parents being around when she ate these cookies because I think that they had to have known that she was allergic to them but then again I would think that the parents would talk to any adult about her allergies and what to do and send an epi pen with her. When one of my friends who is diabetic came over, her parents told my family what to do and luckily my mom is a nurse and she knows how to treat patients and knows what they can and can't have. I'm sorry for there loss, it just takes one mess up or accident to change people's lives forever

  34. Don't be mad at the company it's not their fault the packaging was not looked at before the cookie was eaten
    Just saying

  35. She should have had a pen on her and her mom should have called the friends parents to make sure there were no peanuts. Not everyone can remember what other people's kids can and can't eat. I don't even remember my friends birthdays. It says peanut butter on every side.

  36. This is devastating. I feel so deeply sorry for this family. If she didn’t have Epipen access immediately, as well as Benedryl on hand to take, dire anaphylaxis can be close to immediate. Yes, food packaging needs to have special glaring FDA allergy warning symbols, especially peanut allergies.

    Thank you, Megan.

Also, it’s crucial for the public to understand that pet dander can also cause severe anaphylaxis in certain children and/or adults. It’s crucial for the public to understand when the general public keeps insisting on bringing their pets into restaurants, venues, on planes with them, etc. without taking into consideration the life & death consequences involved for those highly-allergic who have to share those public spaces. Ever since the crackdown law of not leaving your pet in a hot car, there has been a spike in pets coming into food places and spikes in anaphylaxis at these venues.

  37. As a kid I wasnt allowed artificial colors 102 110 123.

I Always red the label on everything even when I was 8.

Even at a friends house I knew the only soft drink I could have is sprite and the only lollies I could have was natural confectionery lollies and I could only have brown m and ms.

I was fatally allergic or allergic at all.
I was just on ADHD medication and these colors would hype me up.

Even at 15 adults said go on have fanta.. I said I cant it has the colors in it.

    They said enjoy it.

But yea I always checked the back label, always.

My heart breaks that this girl passed away.

    It's not the companies fault.

She should have read the back ingredients.

  38. It takes many many epinephrine ampoules IV to counteract acute anaphylaxis. Almost lost a guy who got stung once by a bee. His throat had swollen so much, an anesthesiologist had to intubate him. I am wondering if she had even received hospital treatment? Didn’t get the info once again.

  39. Most of these allergies occur because mothers do not eat any nuts during pregnancy. When we start avoiding all these foods then kids will be more inclined to have these deadly reactions.

  40. This is her own fault. Sorry to be so harsh and blunt and I'm very sorry for the family's loss. However, she knows her allergy and should be extremely diligent about checking if her allergy was this serious. My 4 year old daughter has an extreme dairy allergy (thankfully not fatal however still serious) and I literally check everything she eats even if she's eaten it before. I tell everyone we know not to feed my daughter anything unless I check labels or ingredients and my daughter knows not to eat anything unless she asks mommy or daddy first and she is very good at that. Chips Ahoy clearly labeled this product. This is awful but she should've checked. Also, peanut butter has a strong smell — how did she not smell it?? She should've had her EpiPen on her and she should've had someone call 911 immediately. Prayers for the family. Very sad but preventable.

  41. It's kinda her own fault though..I'm deathly allergic to strawberries and I've been scanning ingredients on packages since I was 7…

  42. How is Megyn Kelly just sitting there acting like she really has no idea about why there's such an outburst of peanut allergies in this day and age ? it is obviously connected to vaccines when you do your research .

  43. Why do people care so much if kids die? Just make another one. Many people even consider creating another kid recreational.

  44. After administration of an epipen.. 911 NEEDS to be dialed! Very simple. Thats your child’s life! So sad.

    Rest in Peace beautiful Angel❤️

  45. I read a little over the comments. Will someone please share with me how this is treated once the victim reaches the hospital. Is there stronger medication given or is there something inserted to keep the airway from closing? Just wondering how this is treated. Sounds like it can be so severe sometimes that it can’t be treated.

  46. If anyone with a food allergy came over to my house for lunch or dinner, I have a separate stash of goodies just for them and them alone.
And wait, was she at her friends house when she consumed that cookie? Why didn't she have an epi pen on her? Why didn't her friends be more observant?
    Anyway, RIP Alex Stafford.

  47. One time I was at school at lunch a mans I was sitting with my friend who has a nut allergy and I was sitting with her all week and the whole week I was eating a Nutella sandwich and on day I asked her if she want half of it and she got really mad at me because I didn’t know she had a nut allergy and i asked her if she wanted it and I didn’t know

  48. It was an accidental mistake my boy has severe allergies and we DO NOT leave the house without it people don't realize allergies are life threatening poor family broke my heart we are all human and it's just so sad it happened:(

  49. Thank you for the heads up about allergies. TG my kids have been spared but it's good to know in case friends are affected. Also, loved your spot about jomo…lately, I've felt way too pressured & connected. I decided not to answer texts & phone immediately. My hubby got really annoyed & started yelling. THATS when I knew I was on the right track. For me, it's jomo…100%

  50. The package was very well labeled. I think the mom frustration is caused by the pain of losing her. 😔 she worked so many years to keep her daughter safe and in hours she was gone.

  51. The package was peeled back so the Reese's label was obstructed. She ate it because she thought it was something else that she could have.

  52. The girl was stupid, almost all of these cookies are a threat to her. It's her fault. Maybe it was suicide bc is it even possible for someone to be that stupid?!🤔

  53. MY personal opinion is if such allergies are so dangerous then people with them should cook their own food at home using bio food products, and get extra funding from the their health insurance or from government sources to pay the excess costs.IT will save them costs of highly expensive medicine to rectify any illness caused from eating the wrong cheap products on the market.

  54. This is so sad. I mean just think this beautiful girl is no longer with us because of a peanut allergy. Her life was robbed from her and it's so disturbing. I want everyone to appreciate their life and value it everyday and those around you because some people have really terrible things happen to them like this.

  55. I am intolerant to peanuts my skin reacts to it but blood doesn't i reacted to reese's pieces when i was 7 my lip swelled a little bit

  56. Hello, I would like to silence those comments saying that she wasn't careful with her allergies because that is bogus. She was a friend of mine who voiced her allergy many times and was super careful. She wouldn't even step foot into a place that had any peanut ingredient used in their menu or would kindly as the workers to change their gloves. Also, she knew how dangerous her allergies were and carried an epi-pen everywhere. It wouldn't hurt Chips Ahoy to change their packaging color if it contains peanuts just to prevent others from committing the same mistake.

  57. these comments are absolutely heartbreaking, alexi was my friend and she was always so cautious about what she ate. regardless of what happened shes gone, blaming people who cared about her dearly doesnt help. alexi we miss you every single day

  58. I'm sorry to hear what happened
I have severe food allergies to all the top 8 but soy and wheat including peanuts I have been hospitalized for peanut reaction before

  59. I'm sorry to hear what happened
I have severe food allergies to all the top 8 but soy and wheat including peanuts I have been hospitalized for peanut reaction before

  60. I went to the E.R today 😞 after school lunchtime! I didn’t eat anything, as I know how to avoid reactions. I pack my lunch, but even a small amount of peanut dust, oil, and any small amount. My principal thinks that a sign is going to fix everything, but I’m not stupid! I don’t sit with people who have peanuts, or any kind of nut. The thing is they don’t even keep the sign there during the other grades lunch times, so a kid could sit there eating a pbj sandwich 🥪 and then the janitor will “clean” the tables by a quick swoop over them with one cloth that has been used on all the other tables. People just don’t understand how serious it is! You can’t clean a table with peanut shmear on it, and then go and clean the “peanut free table” with the same cloth and expect me to be fine! Ughhhhh 😑 and then they blame it on me because “I haven’t been putting the sign on my table”. Wtf?!? How is my allergy my fault?!?! They just don’t get it!!!

  61. Still don't know why we are getting more allergies? Yes we do it's the chemical cocktails the food companies are allowed to pump in to our food.

  62. It's easy to say it can happen I'm allergic to milk eggs peanuts tree nuts pineapple kiwi fish shellfish wasps and bees I accidentally ate butterscotch that I miss read the label it was made on the same equipment as peanuts and tree nuts it's easy to do so don't judge unless you have severe food allergies

  63. The packaging was clearly labeled, they went above and beyond by putting it on all sides, not just in the ingredients list like some others do, it's not the companies fault, it doesn't matter if the packaging was open no one puts the ingredients list inside of the packaging. It's not up to other families to be responsible for that she should have read the ingredients list just a sad mistake, if packaging is confusing for a child they shouldn't eat it unless parents buy it or pack your kids their own snacks everywhere they go

  64. This story should be taught to ALL packaging students in college. Easy to create a more prominent difference in packaging.
