Drug allergies
can be inherited but they don’t have to be. In fact, someone might
run a 10% increased risk of having a medication
allergy for penicillin, for example, if their parent
has a penicillin allergy, but we can pick up de novo
drug allergies as well. A lot of our
allergy is exposure, and so being exposed to
a medication more times or being exposed to
multiple medications can sometimes determine
whether or not we will develop an allergy,
but it’s not always certain.
