Exercise and athletics. Regular attendance
at school or work. Having a pet. Restful sleep. For individuals suffering from
asthma, these common daily experiences can be of constant concern for a
fundamental function of life: breathing Asthma is a chronic, inflammatory
disorder of the lungs with characteristic symptoms of coughing,
wheezing, shortness of breath, and chest tightness. One in every 12 Americans have
been diagnosed with asthma, a number increasing since the 1980s. In 2018, Chattanooga, Memphis, Nashville, and Knoxville ranked among the top 100 most challenging places to live with asthma Common allergens are the most prevalent
culprits as primary triggers. These include pollen, mold, animal dander, and
dust mites. Other common triggers include exercise, tobacco smoke, and air pollution. While asthma may be individually well-controlled with careful management, what can you, non-asthma-sufferers, do to help? Respect designated smoking areas
and policies. Take appropriate actions when air quality alerts are declared. Keep shared spaces clean. Vote on relevant policies. Be educated on risk
factors, symptoms, and management of asthma. And donate to nonprofit/community organizations, such as those which provide medical care to underserved
populations at higher risk for developing asthma Be conscious and help
Tennessee to breathe easy!
