Cholesterol is a waxy, fat-like substance that’s found in your body cells. Your body
needs cholesterol to function. It’s essential because it helps your
body make hormones vitamin D and then also some substances
that you need to digest your food. LDL is the bad cholesterol that can build up in your arteries, cause plaques, and lead to heart attack stroke or heart disease. HDL on the contrast is good cholesterol which helps
to remove the bad cholesterol from your body. High
cholesterol is bad because it can cause a lot of other serious heart problems. When you have a build-up of bad
cholesterol in your arteries, it can lead to heart attack, stroke or heart
disease. So obviously some risk factors you can’t
reduce, such as a family history of heart disease, but you can modify your diet and your
activity level. You wanna stay away from a lotta meats.
You wanna stay away from full fat dairy products anything with
saturated fats and trans fats Your activity level you wanna aim for a
goal of 25 to 30 minutes a day and this is moderate intensity so brisk walking or riding a bike. If
you’re concerned about your cholesterol for instance if you have a family
history of high cholesterol or if you have diabetes or heart disease,
it’s recommended if you meet some other risk factors to
go see your doctor. They can perform a very simple blood test to check your
cholesterol levels and see where you’re at on the charts.
