Hi. My name is Jill Hanson and I’m an allergist
here at Boys Town. As far as my medical background, I went to
medical school here in Omaha at the University of Nebraska Medical Center before moving to
Kansas City for my pediatric residency at Children’s Mercy Hospital. I decided to stay down in Kansas City for
my asthma, allergy, and immunology fellowship and then decided to join Boys Town in 2016. I see primarily children. My background is in pediatrics so that’s
kind of my specialty area, but I see adults as well who have asthma, allergies, food allergies,
medication allergies, things like that. I think what I like most about it is the conditions
are really treatable so I feel like I can actually help my patients feel a lot better. It’s really rewarding to have a patient
maybe who has asthma come back and say gosh I’m back to school and playing sports again
and so I think you really can have a big impact on their quality of life. Kids are just great to work with, I mean I
think that they’re happy, they’re excited, they’re funny and so I don’t know how
you can go through the day working with kids and not also be happy even on a bad day even
on a busy day, kids I think just kind of brighten your day, so I really enjoy working with them. I think we really try to spend a lot of time
in our clinic educating families about their condition and also how to take charge and
manage it and once you give them the background and then the tools to manage it, they feel
a lot more confident like you know I can do this. I can control their symptoms. I can help my child feel better. I can keep them safe. I think we have a really great group of physicians
and nurses for an office staff and everyone is very friendly and excited to help our patients
feel better.
