Hello and welcome to a new video of “FASTPHARMA” with me “Dima” today we’ll take about calcium channel blockers let’s start .. This is a pharmacological group of drugs used in the treatment of cardiovascular diseases such as hypertension, angina and arrhythmias the mechanism of action for CCBs as a start , we have to know that the That the presence of calcium inside the cell stimulate the contractility of the muscles Thus, the less calcium entering the muscles, the less muscle contraction and stay in a relaxed state there are calcium channel inside the cardiac muscles and smooth muscles in Blood vessels regulates the entry of calcium into cells Increasing calcium flow through them, causing arrhythmia and high blood pressure CCBs works to close the calcium channels, reducing the entry of calcium into the cells thus reduce the strength of contractility of the heart muscle and expand blood vessels and thus reduce blood pressure CCBs are divided into two main groups according to the composition and the chemical structure dihydropyridine and nondihydropyridine They also differ in their selectivity to the sites of the calcium channels they work on for the first group ,dihydropyridine its works specifically on the calcium channels present in the smooth muscles of blood vessels so, it’s mainly used in the treatment of hypertension examples are amlodipine and nifedipine As for the second group the “nondihydropyridine” its works specifically on the calcium channels present in the myocardium It is mainly used to reduce the strength of the heartbeat in the case of angina examples are Verapamil and Diltiazem thank you
