Hello and welcome to this brief audio program on fear of infectious disease. My name is Dawson Church I’m the author of the best-selling science book “The Genie In Your Genes” about the science of epigenetics. I’ve also played a role in over 100 clinical trials and the good news is that there are proven scientific tools to help us overcome our fears our disease and also to boost our immune systems. Research shows that negative emotions like fear and pessimism and resentment actually depress our immune systems while positive emotions like optimism and altruism and joy and love actually boost our immune systems. So in the face of infectious disease how can we boost our positive emotions and also suppress those negative emotions that can help make us sick? Now people have had fear of disease for a long time with very good reason in the 14th century the Black Death decimated Europe killing about half of the entire population. In 1918 the great influenza pandemic killed more people than World War I in 2002 the SARS outbreak spread to more than 26 countries and in 2020 the corona virus outbreak rapidly killed over a thousand people and resulted in quarantine all over the world. So we human beings have been suffering the effects of infectious disease for a long time it’s only natural do you feel fear and uncertainty and bewilderment and perhaps a lack of knowledge about how to respond in the face of this terrifying pandemic. For many years now I have been studying and doing research on tools and techniques that can rapidly change your emotional reality. They do this by working with the body’s energy fields. When we put people in a machine like an MRI or an EEG we can actually measure the body’s energies. Certain techniques rapidly shift the body’s energies when the energy system shifts then hormones like cortisol and adrenalin and DHEA shift in the quantity as we have in our bloodstream and immunity markers can change rapidly as well. In fact the two things often have an inverse relationship so as your cortisol levels for example go up your levels of healthy hormones often go down and the same thing is true in reverse; if you use the right techniques then your levels of cortisol go down and your levels of immunity and other positive hormones go up. I did one large-scale randomized controlled trial published in the oldest peer-reviewed psychiatry journal in North America and we found that I just one hour of certain stress reduction techniques, people’s cortisol dropped by 24% and their levels of anxiety and depression dropped by more than half. Now the two techniques I have studied the most are meditation and use of the body’s acupuncture meridians to change the energy settings of the body. We do this either through acupuncture using needles or through acupressure using light tapping on those same acupuncture points. Both these techniques meditation and acupuncture acupressure have been shown in over a hundred clinical trials to rapidly reduce the fear that people feel. That also brings down their anxiety and depression levels when that happens stress hormones like cortisol drop quickly while immune system markers like immunoglobulins rise fast. Immunoglobulins are incredibly important to your health they’re found in all the body’s mucous membranes your eyes your nose your mouth your sinuses and they are the first line of defense against invading bacteria and viruses. If you have high levels of immunoglobulins they’re a marker for the overall health of your immune system. High levels means you’re much less likely to get those respiratory infections that are making the rounds. In one study I did we examined people at a retreat center before and after a weekend of EcoMeditation. EcoMeditation is a specialized meditation technique which I’ll do with you in just a few minutes. We found that in just those two days their levels of cortisol went down by 29 percent as their stress decreased at the same time their levels of salivary immunoglobulin rose by 27 percent and their happiness went up as well. In another study we looked at people’s levels of these markers before and after one week of a combination of meditation and acupressure. We found that their baseline cortisol levels declined by 37% in that week and again when cortisol goes down it frees up all kinds of useful molecules for your body to make things like immune markers. So at the same time as their cortisol went down 37 percent their levels of immunoglobulins rose by 113 percent. That’s a doubling of immunity in just one week. So I would encourage you to listen to the following program use the meditation practice on yourself and you’ll find you’ll feel better. Your mood will shift your fear will go down. What you can’t see, but what’s happening none the less, is that all of these hormones and proteins and enzymes are shifting inside your body. As we’re about to begin find a place you won’t be disturbed for about 15 minutes a quiet place a place without interruptions and give yourself the gift of quiet peaceful time. out of your body as you tap on the side of your hand now tap gently on your governing acupuncture Meridian right on the top of your head with two fingers and as you tap there imagine all the stress leaving your body now tap lightly with your fingertips right way or eyebrow meets the bridge of your nose as all the stress is the flows out of your body now tap on the side of your eye on your gall bladder Meridian as all the stress flows out of your body tap under the pupil of your eye on your stomach meridian feeling all the stress all the tension flowing out of your body with two fingers tap lightly under your nose on the end of your governing meridian as all tension now flows out from your body tap with two fingers right below your lower lip on your central Meridian as all the tension and stress flow out of your body tap now on the area where your collarbone meets your breastbone right below your collarbone on your kidney meridian again feeling all stress and fear leaving your body tap gently under your arm about 10 centimeters down as you feel the last of the fear last the stress leaving your body and tap one last time on the side of your hand underneath the joint that anchors your little finger as the last of the stress flows out of your body stopped tapping and feel the breath flowing effortlessly in and out of your heart slow your breathing down to six seconds per in breath and six seconds per out breath feel the volume of space inside your feet feel the volume of space inside your hands feel a volume of space between your eyes and relax your tongue completely on the floor of your mouth tongue relaxed on the floor of your mouth big empty space between your eyes breath flowing effortlessly in through your heart six seconds breath flowing effortlessly out of your heart six seconds breathing in breathing out noticing how relaxed your tongue is on the floor of your mouth noticing the big empty space between your eyes and imagine a beam of light pouring in through the top of your head illuminating your whole energy field and every energy center of your body this is nature’s life pouring into you bringing you life and animating every single cell molecule and atom of your body tongue relaxed on the floor of your mouth big empty space between your eyes breathing six seconds in breathing six seconds out imagine all the energy centers of your body awakened by nature’s life force pouring in through the top of your head and imagine especially the energy field of your own heart in the center of your chest as you breathe effortlessly in six seconds and out six seconds feeling the energy of your own heart in the center of your chest Tongue relaxed on the floor of your mouth big empty space between your eyes breathing in six seconds breathing out six seconds through your heart picturing that energy inside your heart now send a beam of your heart energy to a person or place that makes you feel wonderful that makes you feel loved that makes you feel perfect send the beam of energy from your heart to that person or place picture your heart energy reaching out to surround that person or place tongue relaxed on the floor of your mouth big empty space between your eyes breathing in through your heart six seconds breathing out through your heart six seconds noticing that beam of your heart energy pouring out to this person or place that makes you feel wonderful notice the color of your heart energy what color is that energy pouring out of your heart? notice the texture of your heart energy what texture is that energy pouring out of your heart? notice all the details of your heart’s energy beam this is your energy your unique energy signature and now make that energy twice as big and twice as strong it’s yours to play with and you know make that energy mean twice as big twice as strong as its surrounds that person or place that makes you feel wonderful Tongue relaxed on the floor of your mouth big empty space between your eyes breathing in through your heart six seconds breathing out through your heart six seconds now imagine this energy beam reaching out from your heart to that person or place expanding expand your energy beam in every direction around your heart as it reaches out to touch every atom in the universe every single atom in the universe is now surrounded by the love and compassion and positive energy pouring out of your heart relaxed on the floor of your mouth big empty space between your eyes breathing six seconds in through your heart breathing six seconds out through your heart as your heart’s energy reaches out to enfold and surround every single atom in the universe with compassion and love enjoy this feeling of connection with every atom in the universe tongue relaxed on the floor of your mouth big empty space between your eyes and now direct your energy beam back to that single person or place gather your energy from where it has been connected with every single atom in the universe and focus it all only on that one person or place as you unfold that single person or place in the love and compassion of your heart now very gently detach your energy beam from that person or place bring it all the way back into your body into your own heart tongue relaxed on the floor of your mouth big empty space between your eyes breathing through your heart six seconds in and six seconds out notice the color of your heart energy notice the texture of your heart energy notice the shape of your heart energy now with your eyes still closed gently tap again on the side of your hand and repeat these words after me I now release my fears I feel my fears I know my fears have been trying to help me I know my fears have been trying to keep me safe but I am now kept safe by nature’s life force pouring in through the top of my head in every moment I no longer need fear to keep you safe I acknowledge my fear and let it go I accept myself the way I am I am safe I notice life here and let it go tap on the top of your head I release my fear tap where your eyebrow meets the bridge of your nose I release my fear now tap on the side of your eye I release all fear from my energy field to have under your eye I release all fear from my body tap under your nose I release all fear from my energy field tap under your lower lip I release all fear from the atoms of my body tap where your collarbone meets your breastbone I release all fear from my past tap under your arm 10 centimeters down I release all fear from my future tap on the side of your hand I release all fear from my present I release all the fear in my life fully and completely and I accept all the good that nature offers me I anchor all the good that nature offers me in my heart I am one with nature I am one with every atom in the universe I am one with everything I am one with vibrant health and I accept myself just the way I am tap on the top of your head say I am safe now tap on the side of your eye I’m doing the best I can tap onto your eye I’m safe now top under your nose I’m doing the best I can tap onto your lower lip I accept myself fully and completely tap where your collarbone meets your breastbone I accept my life the way it is tap on your arm and as I release all fear and stress tap on the side of your hand I know I’m safe now and I release any and every other possibility notice how relaxed your tongue is on the floor of your mouth as you stop tapping notice the big empty space between your eyes feel the breath flowing naturally in and out through your heart and with the next three breaths bring yourself fully back into the here and now and open your eyes feel the volume of space between your eyes feel the volume of space inside your hands feel the volume of space inside your feet look gently around you with open eyes at your surroundings keep your eyes soft and notice the largest green object in your surroundings notice the smallest round object and your
