GSK Recalls Popular Medicine Zinetac

The British company GlaxoSmithKline Pharmaceuticals Limited (GSK) makes a medicine called Zinetac. This Zinetac is made using a chemical called Ranitidine. In India, Zinetac is a very popular for acidity and heartburn. The USA’s Food and Drug Administration (FDA) had started to investigate the chemical Ranitidine. They found that it was extremely poisonous and can cause cancer as well. Immediately after this, they informed the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI)about the harmful effects of Ranitidine. They then told all the state authorities to investigate if the medicine Zinetac was safe or not. GSK then announced that, they would stop selling Zinetac. The have also announced a complete recall of the Zinetac. They have issued a complete recall of all their Zinetac medicines in India and all over the world. GSK said that, they will investigate if the chemical Ranitidine causes cancer or not. The chemical Ranitidine is not used only in Zinetac but in other medicines as well. That will be stopped as well. GSK is not the only company that sells such medicines. There are companies such as JB Chemicals, Sun Pharmaceuticals and Dr Reddy’s that sell medicines made from Randitidine.
