I’m Gabe Garza with today’s health news. If
you have asthma then you might have reason to be angry at your mother and her diet during
your pregnancy. Women who eat substantial amounts of healthy fish oils, such as those
that come from salmon, produce children who will be less likely to develop asthma, according
to new research from the University of Southampton, England. Researchers carried out the study
by having women, at least 19 weeks pregnant, eat salmon twice a week. The children birthed
by these women were then subsequently given allergy tests at six months and then later
at ages two and three. Results showed that as the children grew and progressed the allergy
prevalence increased for those children whose mother didn’t eat salmon during pregnancy.
Researchers hope this research will one day lead to prevention of the disease or at least
better treatment. For dailyRx, I’m Gabe Garza.
