Kia ora, my name is Tarsha and I’m a pharmacist from Auckland City Hospital Today I’m going to show you how to use your breezhaler. First you will need to remove the cover from your device. Next, pull back the mouthpiece to open the capsule chamber Next, you’ll have to remove the
capsule from the foil wrapping To do this, pull back the foil edges and pull until the foil top comes off Do not try to take the capsule out of the foil by trying to push it through the foil wrapping. This will damage the capsule and you’ll
be unable to use it. After you’ve removed the capsule from the foil packaging, place it into the capsule chamber. Close the mouthpiece until you hear a
click Next, you’ll need to pierce the capsule. To do this, push the two buttons
at the side of the device. Next, to inhale your dose, you will need to sit upright or stand upright. You will need to breathe out fully away from the device Then, make a seal with your lips around the mouthpiece and inhale rapidly and deeply and hold your breath for up to 10 seconds You will need to do this twice to inhale your full dose When you are inhaling your dose, you should hear the capsule vibrate. This is very important if you hear the vibration it means that you are inhaling the medicine. After you have done two breaths, open the capsule chamber and have a look inside if there is any powder remaining in the
capsule, take another breath. After you finish taking your dose, open the capsule chamber and take the capsule out. Throw the capsule into the rubbish bin. Once you have taken the capsule out Place the cover back on the device. This will ensure that your mouthpiece stays clean Never wash your breezhaler with water If it does get dirty, use a clean dry cloth to clean any areas that need cleaning You will get a new device with your repeats every month. If you have any questions about any of the inhaler devices please go and ask your pharmacist They’ll be more than happy to help and answer any questions.
