I always knew I wanted to be a
doctor. I wanted to be able to look back at my life and say
that I somehow made a difference. When I was thinking
about going to medical school, I volunteered at Children’s
Hospital in Seattle. I got involved with a child who
suffered a traumatic injury and was a quadriplegic. I learned a
lot about how his injuries impacted his life and his
family’s life and that really drew me to, I think, not only
why I care for children, but also care for children who are
injured. When the opportunity came to move to Colorado to this
beautiful campus, to expand the number of colleagues and take
advantage of a lot of the research that was going on, it
was a no-brainer. It’s been a great move. Our kids really
enjoyed growing up here. The hospital really delivers all
those things that are essential to providing great care and
having a fulfilling practice.
