WILL GET BETTER. WE WILL TELL YOU EXACTLY WHEN AS CHRIS BREAKDOWN THE FORECAST IN JUST A BIT. BUT FIRST AS MANY AS 6 MILLION CHILDREN IN THE U.S. HAVE FOOD ALLERGIES AND ARORY HEALTHCARE ALLERGIST DR. SHELLY WATERS IS HERE TO SHARE INSIGHT ON FOOD ALLERGIES IN CHILDREN.>>THANKS ANDY.>>SO DR. WATERS TALK ABOUT ALLERGIES, AND PEANUT BUTTER. IT IS BIG RIGHT NOW. WHAT IS GOING THAT IS DRIVING THE ALLERGIES.>>ALLERGY IN GENERAL WE FOUND INCREASED OVER THE LAST COUPLE OF DECADES. WE FEEL FOR THE MOST PART IT IS RELATED TO SOMETHING CALLED THE HYGIENE HYPOTHESIS. THAT MEANS IN OUR WESTERN SOCIETY WE’RE JUST SORT OF HYPERSANITIZING — AND OUR IMMUNE SYSTEM BECAUSE IT’S NOT STIMULATED BY A LOT OF MICROBES AND PARASITES IT STARTS TO REACT TO THINGS THAT REALLY WE SHOULD BE ABLE TO TOLERATE.>>SO IN EASTON SOCIETIES YOU SEE MORE INTRODUCTION OF PEANUTS OR THE TYPES OF FOODS, YOUNGER AT AN EARLIER AGE, RIGHT?>>THAT’S RIGHT. SO IT IS INTERESTING BECAUSE THERE WAS A LANDMARK STUDY THAT WAS PUBLISHED IN 2015. THAT, THOSE ASTUTE — RESEARCHERS NOTICED THAT KIDS IN ISRAEL EAT STICKS, A LITTLE BIT — PEANUT SNACKS AND THOSE CHILDREN HAD A MUCH LOWER RATE OF PEANUT ALLERGY VERSUS THE KIDS IN THE UNITED KINGDOM OF ISRAELI ORIGIN, BUT LIVING IN THE WESTER SOCIETY.>>THAT IS THE STUDY THAT CHANGED GUIDELINES. THESE ARE NEW GUIDELINES. >>EXACTLY. SO THE N.I.H. RELEASED AN UPDATE TO THE FOOD ALLERGY GUIDELINES. THEY ARE SAYING NOW, WE SHOULD CONSIDER ADDING PEANUT INTO THE CHILD’S DIET AS YOUNG AS AGE SIX MONTHS. SO THE RECOMMENDATIONS ARE THAT IF YOU CHILD IS CONSIDERED HIGH-RISK FOR PEANUT ALLERGY, THAT WOULD BE A CHILD W IS ALREADY KNOWN TO HAVE EGG ALLERGY OR SEVERE ECZEMA, THAT CHILD BE SEEN BY A SPECIALIST AND TESTED PRIOR TO ANY INTRODUCTION. BUT IN LOW-RISK KIDS — THAT’S PROBABLY SOMETHING THAT COULD BE INTRODUCED AT HOME.>>YEAH.>>THE ONE THING THAT I WANT TO CAUTION PARENTS ON, THOUGH, IS THAT THEY NEED TO HAVE THIS DISCUSSION WITH THEIR PEDIATRICIAN PRIOR TO INTRODUCTION. BECAUSE — WE NEED TO KNOW EXACTLY HOW THE PEANUT WILL BE INTRODUCED IN THE SAME MANNER. WE DON’T WANT CHILDREN EATING PEANUTS WHEN THEY ARE TOO YOUNG OR PEANUT BUTTER WHICH CAN BE A CHOKING HAZARD.>>ABSOLUTELY. GREAT INFORMATION DR. WATERS. THANK YOU FOR COMING IN THIS
