We see that the initial group is pulling away, but it’s still a long way to the finish line of this year’s Jizerská 50. In the gaggle of racers, we had the possibility to see the doyen of the white trail, Ladislav Míka, who to date hasn’t missed a single start of this race. Let’s recall that the Jizerská 50 is run as the 1970 Peru Expedition Memorial, in honour of the 15 Czech mountain climbers who tragically lost their lives while ascending Huascarán. Those mountaineers had previously trained here and now thousands and thousands of enthusiastic cross-country skiers follow in their tracks. We got behind-the-scenes information that Ladislav Míka, with starting number 16, had problems with waxing after the start. But we hope that the experienced cross-county skier will cope with this complication and we’ll see him at the next intermediate times. The television cameras are now turning their attention to other racers who are contending with the demanding fifty-kilometre trail. There are real lovers of this beautiful sport on the trail. And if someone perhaps can’t make these images are the best motivation for next year … we came to 50 kilometers from Bedřichov Láďa Míka called go to the famous memorial at START he always stood the whole ski nation’s coming here but each runs his own race we don’t plan to be Smutná or Rězáč we’re only skiers of local renown we’re troopers on the white trail bare tips plunge into the snow each of us gathers his strength the sky’s blue and the trail’s white blue sky, white trail blue sky, white trail none of us is the new Koukal who could squeeze into his jersey and there’s no better doping than… … “GO!!!” we’re troopers on the white trail we know Jizerka like we know our own boots Bedřichov looks out for its athletes the holy day of skiing’s closer on skis, we go on skis blue sky, white trail blue sky, white trail the day does not go so well perhaps they bought the wrong wax exhausted, we keep on going while it’s all broadcast live Unfortunately, we have received a report that Ladislav Míka has stopped at Čihadla, which is roughly at the 32nd kilometre and, sporting friends, he is leaving the trail… sometimes only seconds decide who leaves empty-handed and who gets the prize we are all really one team fame to the victors and honour to those who thaw blue sky, white trail fame to the victors and honour to those who thaw blue sky, white trail blue sky, white trail fame to the victors and honour to those who thaw blue sky, white trail Ladies and gentlemen, we can celebrate. All of the racers in this year’s Jizerská 50 are back at the stadium in Bedřichov. There’s nothing left to do but to invite you to the next edition of this legendary race and I believe that you won’t make the same mistake on the trail as Ladislav Míka. And so I say goodbye, how else than with “Skol”. Ladislav Míka is the only participant in every edition of the Jizerská 50 held to date.
